FS25 Realistic Brakes V1.4.0.1

Realistic braking behavior for trucks and tractors. This mod works as a companion to Realistic Diesel Start (GN Realism), although it can also be used perfectly well by itself.

Features

  • The parking brake has a realistic holding force based on the vehicle’s weight, including attached trailers, and the slope. A loaded truck left on a steep downhill can roll away when its weight exceeds the brake’s holding force. Releasing the brake also allows the vehicle to roll on a slope while you are inside it.
  • The hill start aid keeps the brakes applied for up to 3 seconds when you stop uphill with the parking brake released. Accelerating releases the aid sooner.
  • Engine braking changes with the selected gear. In a high gear, the vehicle continues rolling after you release the throttle. Shifting down lets the engine slow the vehicle more effectively.
  • The exhaust brake, also called the Jake Brake, can engage automatically when the throttle is released or manually with the B key. It requires a running engine, no throttle input and enough rpm. Its indicator becomes green only while the brake is actively working.
  • Brake fade is simulated separately for each vehicle type. Cars cool quickly, while tractors with oil-immersed brakes are difficult to overheat. A loaded truck descending for a long time can suffer fade within a few minutes. Linings that remain too hot for too long become damaged and stay that way until you visit the workshop. When the brakes begin heating up, a message recommends using the engine brake or shifting down.
  • Trailer air hoses work like those on a real truck. A trailer with air brakes remains braked when its hoses are disconnected. With FS25_manualAttach or Interactive Control, the hoses are connected manually. Automatic attaching connects them by itself.
  • The sound set includes the exhaust brake, brake squeal when the brakes are excessively hot, the truck’s air parking valve or the tractor’s lever ratchet, and air escaping when the brake pedal is released.
  • The HUD remains discreet, with small lights beside the speedometer. They use the same size as Advanced Damage System’s and show the parking brake, engine brake and brake temperature, plus a small number on trucks. A brake failure light appears only when damage exists. Separate layouts are used with ADS and without ADS. Indicators are not drawn across menus.
  • Multiplayer and Dedicated Server supported.
  • Translated into Spanish, English, German and French.

Changelog

  • V1.4.0.1
Multiplayer settings now belong to the savegame. The savegame stores them, and the host or an admin on a dedicated server selects them under Game Settings. The chosen settings apply to all players, including players who join later. Previously, every PC used separate settings, so other players could not see them and changes made by the host did not reach them. Existing savegames use the settings already held by the host.
The hill start aid now shows the “apply the parking brake” warning only when the vehicle actually begins rolling. Previously, releasing the aid always produced the warning, even when soft ground kept the wheels chocked and the vehicle stayed still.
When cruise control is active, changing direction with the shuttle no longer leaves the tractor unable to drive away. The earlier problem happened because the mod treated cruise control as a released throttle and opened the clutch. Cruise control is now treated as throttle. Thanks Rems 834 for the report.
Compatible with savegames from 1.4.0.0 and 1.3.0.0. Multiplayer and Dedicated Server supported.
  • V1.4.0.0
This update follows the published 1.3.0.0 version. It also contains 1.3.0.1 and 1.3.1.0, which were never uploaded.
New, hill start aid: stopping uphill with the parking brake released keeps the brakes applied for up to 3 seconds or until you accelerate. The vehicle rolls after that. Use the parking brake if you want to remain stopped.
A vehicle now rolls on a slope with the parking brake released even when you are inside it. A parked truck also rolls away without its parking brake. The engine brake does not hold a stopped vehicle.
Engine brake advice now warns you to use the engine brake or shift down when the brakes heat up during a descent, before fading begins.
Trucks show their brake temperature as a small number beneath the warning light, allowing you to follow the temperature as it rises.
New, smaller brake failure light: it appears in amber beside the temperature light only after the linings begin taking damage.
Fixed, dedicated server: the parking brake and engine brake previously had no effect because the server could not identify the driver.
With Advanced Damage System, burnt brake linings could not be repaired at the workshop. ADS now manages brake condition, while this mod simulates only the heat.
The AI helper no longer jerks on slopes when you have left the parking brake released.
Warning lights no longer appear over menus or dialogs, including the report from Real Fuel Consumption.
Compatibility, Continue Driving After Exit: the vehicle no longer brakes on its own while that mod continues driving it.
Compatibility, CVT Addon: tractor wheels with its transmission no longer lock when the accelerator is released.
Compatibility, AutoDrive: when you are seated while AutoDrive is driving, the mod no longer releases the brake at stops.
Settings now allow the mod’s parking brake, hill start aid and engine brake advice to be disabled. There are fewer options: “Engine brake level” remains at 2, while “Trailer air hoses” is permanently on and has therefore been removed. Warning lights match the size used by Advanced Damage System, with one position when ADS is installed and another position when it is not.
Truck sounds now include air escaping when the brake pedal is released, with a louder sound after harder braking. Releasing the parking brake has a separate sound, and applying it is louder. The engine brake is quieter, especially inside the cab.
Compatible with savegames from 1.3.0.0: no new game is required. Multiplayer and Dedicated Server supported.
  • V1.3.0.0
New, trailer air brake hoses: a trailer with air brakes stays braked while its air hoses are disconnected, just like a real truck. When no air supply is present, its spring brakes apply automatically.
Works with FS25_manualAttach and Interactive Control: attach the trailer first, connect the air hoses second, and the trailer can move only after both steps are complete. Disconnecting a hose plays an air-release sound.
The game’s automatic coupling system connects the hoses automatically, so its behavior is unchanged.
With Realistic Engine Start, the trailer has a separate air tank that fills from the truck’s air supply. The truck’s air pressure falls, an empty trailer consumes almost half of the available air, and the compressor needs longer because both tanks must be filled. The trailer disconnects at 4.1 bar.
Applying the trailer brakes locks its wheels, as with a real truck using spring brakes. The truck can pull it only barely, slowly and under heavy load.
This does not remove the truck’s own brakes. Trailers without air brakes, trailers behind tractors without air connections and trailers controlled by a Worker continue behaving as usual.
A message explains the reason if you attempt to drive while the trailer’s brakes are locked.
The feature can be switched off in the settings.
New, parking brake sound: trucks use the sound of the air parking-brake valve, while tractors and other vehicles use the mechanical ratchet sound of the lever.
Engine brake indicator: while the engine brake is not actually slowing the vehicle, its indicator stays dim or off, including when automatic mode is armed. Green appears only during active braking. Previously, the indicator stayed lit continuously.
HUD indicators now remain beside the speedometer at every HUD scale. Previously, a HUD scale other than 1 could misalign them from the gauge. Vehicles excluded from Advanced Damage System now receive the correct layout without ADS.
Compatible with savegames from 1.2.0.0: no new game is required. Multiplayer and Dedicated Server supported.
