FS25 BRDM2 9K31 Strela-1 v1.0

The 9K31 Strela-1 (known by its NATO reporting name SA-9 Gaskin) is a highly mobile, short-range, infrared-guided surface-to-air missile system developed by the Soviet Union.

Technical Specifications & Design
– Chassis: Built on a modified BRDM-2 4×4 amphibious armored vehicle platform (notably omitting the belly-crossing chain-driven wheels found on standard reconnaissance variants to accommodate the system).
– Armament: Features a specialized turret mounting two pairs of ready-to-fire 9M31 (or 9M31M) infrared-homing surface-to-air missiles. The launchers fold down alongside the turret during travel to reduce the vehicle’s height.
– Crew: Operated by a crew of 3 (commander, gunner, and driver).
– Mobility: Powered by a GAZ-41 V-8 water-cooled petrol engine, allowing road speeds up to 100 km/h and full amphibious capability in water at up to 10 km/h.

Military Role & Tactical Importance
– Air Defense Integration: Introduced in 1968, the Strela-1 was designed to provide tactical air defense at the regiment level for Soviet tank and motor rifle units, often operating alongside ZSU-23-4 Shilka self-propelled anti-aircraft guns.
– Frontline Protection: It offered mobile, low-altitude protection against fast jets and attack helicopters directly on the battlefield, bridging the gap between man-portable systems (MANPADS) and heavier radar-guided artillery.
