FS25 Realistic Exhaust V1.9.0.1

Realistic Exhaust replaces Farming Simulator 25’s basic smoke stages with a dynamic exhaust model. Fuel quantity, air supply, turbocharger, boost pressure, engine temperature, and the soot limit all influence the smoke. Together, they determine its color, density, and volume, so each engine develops its own unique character.

Features

Dynamic Exhaust Behavior

  • Engine load, RPM, and throttle position affect the smoke response.
  • Turbochargers use realistic response times.
  • Varying smoke patterns appear after throttle bursts, sudden RPM drops, and load changes.
  • Under load, older engines generally create more smoke.
  • With no load, high RPMs produce exhaust that is nearly clear.
  • Starting the engine creates a distinct, dense smoke puff.

Cold Engines

A cold engine can create white vapor or bluish-white smoke from unburnt fuel. The effect fades as the engine reaches operating warmth. Water vapor is easier to see in cold temperatures and high humidity.

Smoke Colors

The engine and its current operating state determine which shades appear:

  • Deep black
  • Brownish-black
  • Grayish-brown
  • Bluish-gray
  • White
  • Bluish-white

Particles keep their color after they are emitted. They age naturally, becoming lighter and thinner, and then gradually dissipate.

Realistic Exhaust Output

  • The visible exhaust pipe is the direct source of the smoke.
  • Engine power determines the scale of particle size and exit velocity.
  • At idle, the output remains gentle.
  • Heavy load produces a more intense exhaust flow.
  • Vehicles with multiple exhaust pipes are supported.
  • Hidden or invisible exhausts emit no smoke.

Throttle

Smoke volume changes dynamically with the throttle position:

  • Below 30%: minimal smoke
  • Up to 50%: moderate amount
  • From 50% upwards: increasingly intense
  • From 75% upwards: maximum smoke volume and exit velocity

Weather

  • Wind changes the direction and turbulence.
  • Warm air allows water vapor to dissipate faster.
  • Rain and cold conditions make the vapor more visible.
  • Rain lowers the soot amount in the smoke plume.

16 Engine Profiles

The engine library contains profiles for:

  • Modern and older diesel engines
  • Gasoline (petrol) engines
  • Turbocharged and naturally aspirated engines
  • Hot-bulb (semi-diesel) engines
  • Two-stroke engines
  • Methane-powered engines
  • Large and small engines

Profiles are assigned automatically according to fuel type, vehicle category, power output, model series, year of manufacture, and detected exhaust technology.

Special Vehicle Types

  • Modern diesels with AdBlue: virtually smoke-free
  • Gasoline engines: no black diesel soot
  • Motorcycles: primarily heat shimmer
  • Bicycles: no exhaust emissions
  • Electric vehicles: no exhaust emissions

Customization of engine profiles is available in data/engineLibrary.xml.

Technology & Compatibility

  • Procedurally generated smoke textures
  • 36 stages of aging per texture
  • Dedicated particle pools for each exhaust pipe
  • Reduced flickering and smoother transitions
  • Compatible with base-game, DLC, and modded vehicles
  • Supports multiple exhaust pipes
  • No individual vehicle-specific configuration required
