FS25 Mud on the road V2.8.0.0
Mud on the road creates visual mud trails, tyre-print smears and thrown clods on roads, yards and tracks whenever vehicles leave worked fields or have mud on their tyres.
Features
- Only tyres carrying real mud drop it. This is the mud shown by the game on tyres after field work. Clean and washed tyres leave no mud behind.
- Muddy tyres create tyre-print smears on roads, yards and tracks and throw clods away from the vehicle. The faster the vehicle travels, the farther the clods are flung across the road.
- Mud comes off the tyres while the vehicle moves. As the trail fades over several hundred metres, the tyres become clean again.
- When the vehicle turns, the smears follow the wheels around the corners.
- Existing mud becomes thicker and fresher when vehicles drive over it, with each new layer being placed over the older one.
- Every wheeled vehicle and trailer is supported, including vehicles operated by AI helpers.
Cleaning up
- Rain removes mud from the road. Heavy rain clears it in about 5 in-game hours, while light rain takes around half a day.
- Without rain, the mud dries, becomes pale and disappears after about three in-game days.
- Active sweeper brushes remove the mud from the areas they pass over.
- A bucket can scrape the mud away. Lower the bucket of a loader, telehandler or wheel loader until its lip rests on the road, then push forward. The collected mud enters the bucket as manure in the base game, or as mud/dirt/soil when another mod provides that fill type.
Mud on road sign
- The pack includes a small A-frame “Mud on road” warning sign made in the UK road-sign style.
Mud on road sign specifications
- The sign can be found under Shop: Decorations.
- Price: 25
Good to know
- Mud is stored together with your savegame.
- In multiplayer, the mud is visual only and is calculated separately on each PC, so it creates no network traffic.
- On the first start, the game creates
modSettings/FS25_MudOnRoad.xml. This file lets you change the mud duration, the distance it is carried, the number of clods thrown, the maximum mud amount on the map and more. - Multiplayer is now supported.

Changelog
- V2.8.0.0
New: vehicles that are clean when they drive through mud now collect some and spread it farther along the road. Traffic also flattens clods and carries them away.
New: the muddier the work, the muddier the roads become. Ploughed and cultivated ground, root crops, sugar beet, potatoes, carrots, parsnips and onions, as well as wet weather, produce more mud. Stubble, direct drilling and dry days produce less.
New: when the ground becomes wet, dried mud looks wet again before drying back to its pale appearance.
New: heavy mud left on public roads can result in fines. A warning comes first. If the mud remains, your farm receives a fine at every check, up to 2,000.
Mud within 200 m of a Mud On Road sign is never included in the count, and mud on your own land is excluded as well. Disable fines withmudOnRoadFinesor through the settings file.
New: the soil colours are brown, standard, dark, peat / fen, chalk, pale chalky soil, and red, red clay. Choose them for each savegame withmudOnRoadSoilfollowed by the colour, for examplemudOnRoadSoil red. Existing road mud changes colour too.
New console commands:mudOnRoadSoilandmudOnRoadFines. The commandmudOnRoadInfonow also reports how much of your mud is counted toward a fine.
Removed: the experimental sticking mud.
Fixed: during multiplayer, mud sent while a player is joining can no longer prevent the game from loading. The settings file was updated. On the first start, old settings files are replaced by the new defaults. - V2.7.0.0
Multiplayer: the server now synchronises the mud, meaning every player sees the same mud on the roads. Players joining a server later can also see all mud that was already present. Sweeping, bucket scraping, rain washing and drying now behave the same for every player.
New: tyres flick mud up on wet worked fields.
New: areas close to the wheels become muddier during wet field work.
The settings file was updated. On the first start, old settings files are replaced by the new defaults. - V2.3.2.0
Tyre marks: the marks now form one continuous trail instead of separate, patchy prints.
The prints have torn and overlapping ends, giving the trail a natural appearance instead of a blocky one.
The mud colour is darker and more realistic.
Smears remain on smooth roads, yards and flat painted tracks. Grass verges, gateways, gravel and uneven ground receive mud lumps only, so smears no longer resemble planks on rough ground.
When mud appears: vehicles drop mud only after they have just left a worked field, ploughed, cultivated, sown etc. Grass fields do not count, and muddy vehicles leaving the yard no longer create mud.
The trail ends 600 m after the field, or earlier when the tyres have become clean.
Lumps: about twice as many lumps come off the tyres, with more crumbs settling in the tyre prints.
Settings: new options aremaxTrailDistance, the trail length after the field;smearsOnTerrain, smears on all ground;hardGroundSmears, smears on hard painted ground; andflatTolerance, how flat painted ground must be for smears.
The settings file is reset to the new defaults on the first start.
