The BTR-4 “Bucephalus” (Ukrainian: БТР-4 “Буцефал”, romanized: Butsefal, abbreviation of Бронетранспортер, Bronetransporter, “armored transporter”) is an 8×8 wheeled amphibious combat vehicle, used for transport armored personnel carrier, manufactured by the Ukrainian firm SOE Kharkiyv Morozov Bureau of Design, based in the city of Kharkiv, and is highly based on the exterior components of the Soviet BTR-80 armored vehicle, with which it resembles in its external appearance.
It is generally intended to transport personnel of mechanized infantry units and to provide fire support in combat. This TPB’s mission is to equip military units so that they are capable of carrying out combat actions in diverse conditions, including ABQ environments. The TPB BTR-4 is a fundamental vehicle to equip the quick reaction forces and the marines of the new Iraqi Army.[citation needed]
The TPB can execute missions both day and night, in different weather conditions; and on paved roads and off-road. The operating range of the armored vehicle in terms of its climatic operating temperature is from -40 to +55 °C. It is expected that in its service in Iraq it will be used for surveillance of urban environments.[1]
It saw action during the Donbas War, before being used in the liberation of the town of Jourf al-Nasr from the Islamic State and the Russian invasion of Ukraine.
