FS25 Realistic 4×4 Traction System V2.0.0.0
This mod brings a switchable 4×4 traction system to compatible tractors, trucks, harvesters and cars. It includes differential locks and reactions based on wheel slip. Multiplayer is still in development.
Multiplayer can be played, although bugs may occur.
Features
- Rear-wheel slip is detected realistically. Automatic modes respond to real wheel-slip physics rather than speed alone.
- Every vehicle receives one of four driving modes by default:
- Manual mode keeps control with the player at all times.
- Semi-automatic mode engages when actual wheel slip occurs, while manual control remains available.
- Automatic mode follows the same logic, adjusted for vehicles with factory-fitted automatic 4WD, including CVT/IVT transmissions.
- Intelligent mode engages continuously and proportionally in the Fendt style, avoiding sudden switching on or off.
- Tyre-pressure simulation works natively during engagement and does not depend on another mod.
- A HUD displays the current status in real time, and its position can be adjusted in the game’s Settings menu.
- No vehicle XML files need changing. The system integrates automatically into every compatible vehicle.
V2.0.0.0
- Support now covers all drivable vehicles other than trains, boats and motorbikes.
- The shop category and actual driveline determine how each vehicle is handled: tractors keep selectable 4×4, as before; articulated / 4-track tractors, wheel loaders and telehandlers use permanent 4×4 with locks only; 6×4 trucks receive a lockable inter-axle differential and locks; AWD trucks have selectable front drive; 4×2 trucks have a rear lock; cars / pick-ups / UTVs use part-time 4×4, which engages while moving; combines and self-propelled vehicles can request rear-axle drive.
- Vehicle-type limits control the point at which 4×4 and locks engage, the maximum speed while using 4×4, and automatic locking or unlocking.
- Press Left Alt + J to open the new 4×4 window. It shows a top view of the driveline, and the mouse controls 4×4 plus centre / inter-axle and front / rear locks. The vehicle mode is saved with the savegame, alongside tyre-pressure choices for field / road / automatic / manual, telemetry and all settings.
- The menu in the game’s settings has been removed because it made loading slower. All options are now found in the window.
- For mod and DLC tractors without a profile, the transmission selects the mode: CVT / full powershift gives automatic, partial powershift gives semi-automatic, and a manual gearbox gives manual.
- Brand profiles now affect tractors only. Massey Ferguson combines and the Kubota R640 use automatic, while Challenger MT600 is excluded.
- When the Zasty HUD is active, the 4×4 panel is hidden. The HUD then displays 6X4 / AWD / 4X2 and the locks.
- In multiplayer, every player receives each vehicle’s driveline and mode, while the server checks the selected mode.
- Only Ctrl + J for 4×4 and Ctrl + K for locks remain as keys. Single locks, CTIS, tyre pressure, panel and telemetry are now controlled in the window.
- Fixed an issue where the default keys were not assigned during a new installation.
KEYS (default)
- Left Ctrl + J switches 4×4 on / off.
- Left Ctrl + K switches Differential locks on / off.
- Left Alt + J opens the 4×4 window with locks, tyre pressure, mode and settings.
These are the default keys. If the game or another mod already uses one, open Options > Controls and choose another key to prevent conflicts.
V1.7.0.1
- The AI helper received fixes. A combine could remain still while reversing uphill and would not change gear, as Patrik Vendelberger reported.
- 4×4 now operates only on a vehicle driven by a player. A vehicle with an AI helper, stopped with nobody inside or parked, uses the game’s original differentials, tyre radius and speed limit.
- The missing translation for
Move 4WD HUDwas fixed. It had produced a log warning in 22 languages, as reported by Patrik Vendelberger. - HUD textures are compressed, eliminating the
raw formatwarnings in the log. - Game start is faster. The settings menu section is built only when Settings is opened for the first time. Previously, starting froze for ~4 s.
- Vehicle Control Addon (VCA) compatibility was added, following a suggestion from Cris669.
- VCA has its own 4WD and diff locks and rewrites the differentials every frame, which meant that both mods were fighting.
- A new option is available at Settings > General > 4×4 Traction System >
With Vehicle Control Addon: Command VCA(default): the mod’s automatic 4WD logic, including slip, implement lowered, braking, tight turns and GPS prediction, switches VCA’s 4WD and diff locks. VCA handles the differentials. CTIS, tyre pressure, HUD and telemetry keep working.Leave to VCA: only VCA operates on that vehicle.Ignore VCA: the old behaviour, not recommended.- VCA integration should work, but it has not yet been tested in-game with VCA installed. Please test it and send feedback/log if something is not right.
- Headland Management and CVT Addon were checked, as suggested by Cris669, and no conflicts were found.
- Thanks to Patrik Vendelberger and Cris669 for the reports.
V1.7.0.0
- The new in-game settings menu is at Esc -> Settings -> General ->
4x4 Traction System. - Available settings cover HUD position and style, engaging 4WD with implement lowered, disengaging in tight turns, engagement while braking, road speed limit, GPS prediction strength, locked centre torque bias, tyre pressure by hand and diagnostic log.
- Settings are stored in
modSettings/FS25_4x4TractionSystem.xmland remain for all savegames and after the mod is updated. - Files inside the zip no longer need editing.
- A minimalist HUD was added. Select
Iconin the menu to use the optional view of the tractor from the side. - A green wheel means the wheel has traction. The rear remains green; when 4WD engages, the front wheel and drive shaft also become green, while they are grey in 2WD.
- Padlocks represent diff locks: the rear hub shows the rear lock, the transfer box shows the centre lock, and the front hub shows the front lock.
- A slipping wheel flashes green/red, with each axle working independently. At road speed, low field pressure makes both wheels flash.
- On tractors with CTIS or pressure by hand, tyre pressure appears below every front / rear wheel in bar.
- The shop image of the tractor being driven appears beside the icon and can be turned off.
- Text below the display shows 4X4 / 2X4, the mode and active locks. Three sizes are available.
- To move the HUD, panel or icon, press Ctrl+Shift+N and drag with the left button. Finish with right click / Esc / Enter. The camera remains still during movement. The key can be changed in the Controls menu.
- Note: texts for the new menu and icon are currently in English and Portuguese. Other languages use English for now, while translations are being worked on.
